If you’re a fan of country music, you’ve likely heard the classic song “Blue” by Bill Mack. This song has been covered by numerous artists, but did you know that it was originally written for the legendary Patsy Cline?

As a travel enthusiast, I had the opportunity to visit the Blue Mountains in Australia, which was the inspiration for the song. In this article, I’ll delve into the history of “Blue” and explore the connection between the song and Patsy Cline.

The Blue Mountains, located in New South Wales, Australia, are a stunning natural wonder. With their blue-hued peaks and lush greenery, it’s easy to see why they inspired Bill Mack to write “Blue.”

In 1958, Mack was driving through the Blue Mountains when he was struck by their beauty. He pulled over and wrote the lyrics to “Blue” on the back of a matchbook. The song was recorded by LeAnn Rimes in 1996 and became a hit, but it was originally written with Patsy Cline in mind.

Patsy Cline was known for her powerful voice and emotional performances, and “Blue” would have been a perfect fit for her. Unfortunately, she passed away in a plane crash in 1963, before Mack had the chance to offer her the song.

Despite never recording “Blue,” Cline’s influence can still be heard in the song’s melancholic lyrics and haunting melody. It’s easy to imagine her singing the lyrics, “Blue, oh so lonesome for you / Why can’t you be blue over me?”
