In Sydney, where do the Eastern Suburbs End and the Inner West Begin?
As a local, I would venture a guess that the boundary between the Eastern Suburbs and the Inner West lies somewhere around South Dowling Street. On the eastern side of this street, you have plenty of green space and it forms a natural barrier. When I was living in the Eastern Suburbs, I would always have considered any venture past South Dowling as travelling into the Inner West.
The Eastern Suburbs
The Eastern Suburbs of Sydney are some of the most affluent and desirable areas in the city. They are located to the east of the CBD and are bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east and South Dowling Street to the west. The Eastern Suburbs are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, including Bondi Beach, Bronte Beach, and Coogee Beach. These beaches are popular with locals and tourists alike and offer a range of activities, from surfing to sunbathing.
The Eastern Suburbs are also home to some of the best restaurants and bars in the city. The suburb of Paddington is particularly known for its trendy cafes and boutique shops. The area is also home to the famous Sydney Cricket Ground, which hosts international cricket matches and other sporting events throughout the year.
The Inner West
The Inner West of Sydney is a diverse and eclectic area that is home to a wide range of cultures and communities. It is located to the west of the CBD and is bordered by South Dowling Street to the east and Parramatta Road to the west. The Inner West is known for its vibrant arts and music scene, with many live music venues and galleries located in the area.
The Inner West is also home to some of the best parks and green spaces in the city. The suburb of Newtown is particularly popular with locals and visitors alike, thanks to its beautiful parks and gardens. The area is also home to a number of historic buildings and landmarks, including the Enmore Theatre and the Marrickville Town Hall.
Where Do They Meet?
As I mentioned earlier, South Dowling Street is often considered the boundary between the Eastern Suburbs and the Inner West. However, this is not a hard and fast rule, and there is some overlap between the two areas. For example, the suburb of Surry Hills is often considered part of the Eastern Suburbs, even though it is located to the west of Australia.
