11 Best Hotels Near the Sydney Airport

February 22, 2023 by MySydneyDetour Leave a Comment

By MySydneyDetour • Updated August 19, 2026

The closest hotel to Sydney Airport is Aerotel, built directly inside Terminal 1, so guests never leave the building. If you want a full-service hotel just outside the terminal, Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport is a 12-minute walk from the domestic terminals, and Rydges Sydney Airport is about 181 steps from the international check-in desks. Below are 11 hotels we’ve individually verified as genuinely close to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), not simply “Sydney” hotels that happen to share the airport’s name. Two hotels that used to appear on lists like this, including an earlier version of this one, are actually in Sydney’s CBD, 7 to 14 km away, so we’ve dropped them.

Best Hotels Near the Sydney Airport

1. Aerotel Sydney Airport

Aerotel Sydney Airport is the only hotel physically inside Sydney Airport. It sits within the International Terminal (T1), a short walk from the arrivals hall, so there’s no shuttle, taxi, or outside walk required. It’s the obvious pick for a short layover, a very early departure, or a late arrival. Guests get free parking and Wi-Fi, plus daily housekeeping.

The property is about 6 km from Sydney Central Station, so it isn’t built as a city base. It’s built for people who need to be at the airport, not near it. Rooms have a rooftop terrace with airport views.

If you’re passing through Sydney on a tight connection, this is the hotel that removes the transfer entirely.

2. Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel

At Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel, you’re about 1.5 mi (2.4 km) from the airport and roughly 181 steps from the International Terminal check-in desks. That’s close enough that the free roundtrip T-Bus shuttle to both Domestic and International terminals runs constantly rather than on a fixed schedule.

The hotel’s 318 well-appointed rooms and suites have runway views and Rydges’ own Dream Bed mattresses. A 24-hour lobby lounge and free in-room Wi-Fi round it out, and its rooftop bar, Cloud 9, opens nightly from 5pm with runway, Port Botany, and city-skyline views if you want a drink before or after a flight. It’s under 20 minutes from the Sydney CBD if you want to combine the airport stay with a night in the city.

For a full-service, upscale stay that’s still practically at the terminal, Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel is the strongest all-rounder on this list.

3. The Branksome Hotel & Residences

The Branksome Hotel & Residences, at 60 Robey Street in Mascot, is about a 2-minute drive to the Domestic terminals and 10 minutes to the International terminal. That’s genuinely close, even though it sits a little further out on a map than some entries here. It’s a 4.5-star aparthotel, so rooms lean toward apartment-style comfort rather than standard hotel rooms.

Guests get free Wi-Fi, a rooftop terrace, breakfast, an indoor pool, and free on-site parking, which is unusual this close to the airport, where paid parking is the norm. A shuttle runs at scheduled times.

It’s a solid choice if you want more space than a standard hotel room without giving up proximity to the terminals.

4. Novotel Sydney International Airport

The Novotel Sydney International Airport is about 0.6 miles from the International terminal, roughly a 20-minute walk or a few minutes by the hotel’s airport shuttle or taxi. Rooms have been recently refreshed and look out over either a golf course or the airport itself, plus 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi in the lobby.

The Cooks River and Kogarah Golf Course are a 5-minute walk away. Wolli Creek Railway Station, useful if you want a direct train into the city, is about 15 minutes on foot. Rooms are air-conditioned with work desks, satellite TV, and blackout curtains.

5. Ibis Budget Sydney Airport

The 3.5-star Ibis Budget Sydney Airport is about a 10-minute walk from the T2 and T3 Domestic terminals, and roughly a 10-minute drive to the International terminal. It’s the best budget option on this list that’s still walkable to Domestic departures. Mascot train station is about 600 m away.

Rooms are simple but include linen service, blackout curtains, and air conditioning throughout. There’s free Wi-Fi, on-site parking, and a 24-hour front desk. The hotel runs a scheduled shuttle service; check current per-person pricing when you book, since shuttle fees at budget airport hotels change often.

If your main priority is a clean, no-frills room within walking distance of Domestic check-in, this is the pick.

6. Travelodge Hotel Sydney Airport

The Travelodge Hotel Sydney Airport sits about 850 m from the Domestic terminals and roughly 4.5 km, a 10-minute drive, from the International terminal. That’s close enough for an early flight without paying upscale-hotel prices. Its 209 rooms are simply furnished, with connecting rooms available on request and a sunny outdoor courtyard for guests to mingle in.

It’s about a 9-minute walk to Mascot train station, with The Grounds of Alexandria and Eastlakes Shopping Centre both roughly 8 minutes away by car. Every room has a private bathroom with complimentary toiletries, a hairdryer, a flat-screen TV, and tea/coffee facilities, and checkout is a relaxed 11am.

7. Silkari Urban CKS Sydney Airport Hotel

Formerly known as CKS Sydney Airport Hotel, this property rebranded to Silkari Urban CKS Sydney Airport Hotel in August 2024. If you see it listed under either name while booking, it’s the same hotel. It offers free Wi-Fi about 5 minutes from the International terminal and 10 minutes from the Domestic terminal, with an on-site bar and restaurant.

It’s non-smoking with a 24-hour front desk, laundry facilities, and a pay-per-use airport shuttle. The Cooks River is a 5-minute walk away, and Wolli Creek train station is about 10 minutes on foot. Every room has air conditioning, automatic wake-up calls, a TV, a fridge, and tea/coffee facilities.

8. Quest Mascot

Quest Mascot is a 3-minute drive from the Domestic terminal and works well if you want self-contained space instead of a standard hotel room. Every apartment has a kitchenette or full kitchen, useful for a longer stopover or a family travelling with young kids.

It’s also close to the business parks of Alexandria and Botany, several hospitals, and local shopping, so it suits business travellers extending a trip as much as airport-only stays. An airport shuttle runs 24 hours a day; confirm the current per-person fare when booking.

9. Holiday Inn Express Sydney Airport

The Holiday Inn Express Sydney Airport is an IHG select-service property. The “Express” branding means budget-to-midscale, not luxury, but it’s a genuinely convenient option about 5 minutes from the airport with its own airport shuttle.

Rooms come with free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and 24-hour room service, plus a sauna and 24-hour fitness centre. It’s a practical, well-priced choice for a short airport stopover rather than a destination stay in itself.

More Verified Options Near the Airport

Three more hotels are worth knowing about even though we don’t have a dedicated photo section for them yet:

  • Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport: about 540 m (a 12-minute walk) from the T2/T3 Domestic terminals, or a short ride on the local bus. The hotel runs its own shuttle for AUD $14 per person each way. This is the closest full-service hotel on this list that’s outside the terminal itself.
  • Mantra Hotel at Sydney Airport: about 800 m (a 9-minute walk) from the T2 Domestic terminal, making it another genuinely walkable option if Aerotel and Stamford Plaza are fully booked.
  • Pullman Sydney Airport: the only 5-star hotel at Sydney Airport, about 1 km (a 15-minute walk) from the Domestic terminal and 3.4 km from the International terminal. It’s also a 7-minute walk from Mascot train station, which puts both terminals two stops or fewer away by rail. With 229 rooms, it’s the upscale pick on this list for travellers who want a proper full-service stay rather than a convenience stopover.

FAQ

Where is Sydney Airport?

Sydney Airport, also known as Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), is located about 8.6 kilometers south of the Sydney city centre, in the suburb of Mascot.

Which Sydney Airport hotel is closest?

Aerotel Sydney Airport is the closest. It’s built inside the International Terminal (T1), so guests don’t leave the building. If you want a full-service hotel outside the terminal itself, Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport is about a 12-minute walk from the Domestic terminals.

Are all Sydney Airport hotels actually near the airport?

No. Some “Sydney Airport hotel” lists include hotels that are actually in Sydney’s CBD, 7 to 14 km from the airport with a 25-minute-plus drive. Always check the stated distance to the terminal, not just the hotel’s star rating or name, before booking for an early flight.

What amenities do hotels near Sydney Airport typically offer?

Most offer free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, a TV, and an airport shuttle, free or paid depending on the hotel. Several, including Rydges and Aerotel, are within walking distance or a short shuttle ride of the terminals, which matters more for an early flight than star rating alone.

Last updated: August 2026. We verified current hotel names and terminal distances, corrected the Holiday Inn Express branding and the CKS to Silkari Urban rebrand (August 2024), removed two hotels that are actually in Sydney’s CBD rather than near the airport, and added three additional verified walkable options, including Pullman Sydney Airport, the only 5-star hotel at the airport.
