History of the Sydney-Perth Rail Corridor

The Sydney-Perth Rail Corridor is a 4,352-kilometer railway line that connects the east coast of Australia to the west coast. The line was built in sections over many years, with the final section completed in 1917. The line was originally built as a narrow-gauge railway, but it was converted to standard gauge in the 1960s and 1970s to allow for faster and more efficient travel.

The Train: Indian Pacific

The train that runs on the Sydney-Perth Rail Corridor is known as the Indian Pacific. The train is operated by Great Southern Rail and takes passengers on a journey through some of Australia’s most stunning landscapes. The train has been in operation since 1970 and has become an iconic part of Australian travel.

The Indian Pacific offers several classes of travel, including Gold Service, Platinum Service, and Red Service. Gold Service includes a private cabin with an en suite bathroom, while Platinum Service offers even more luxurious accommodations. Red Service is the most affordable option and includes a reclining seat.
